I Couldn't Make it to the Funeral

After learning about a good friend losing her battle with breast cancer I was heartbroken for her and her children.   2500 miles away in the middle of finals and 8 months pregnant. I couldn’t make it to the funeral.  I sat down in mourning and sketched.  The drawing had large flat areas of black. I hesitated to paint the bleak picture, but the image was inspired so I was going to take the risk even if the result was a disaster.  I painted. I could see the strength, and hope beginning to emerge from the background. The scene spoke of family, hope, loss, resurrection, and love. Created in  the spirit and memory of a beautiful, strong, awesome, and glorious woman.
